This book is a biographical study of Metropolitan Andrei Sheptytsky of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, covering the interwar period from 1923, when the metropolitan returned from Rome to his archbishopric see in Lviv, until the beginning of Second World War in September 1939. This time period is crucial for an understanding of Metropolitan Sheptytsky’s personality and his work and legacy as the most important religious leader in Western Ukraine under Polish rule in the first half of the 20th century. The publication of this book was supported by the Peter Jacyk Program for the Study of Modern Ukrainian History and Society at the CIUS.
