Description
The book of memoirs of Cardinal Liubomyr Huzar (1933–2017), the head of the Ukrainian Catholic Church (in 2001–2011), is based on a series of conversations recorded on his request between 2014 and 2016. In his memoirs, the eminent religious leader describes his childhood in interwar Ukraine, the years of the Second World War, his youth spent in Austria, and the formative years after he emigrated with his parents to the United States. He subsequently recollects his monastic life at a monastery of the Studite Fathers in Italy, his illustrious church career, and eventual return to independent Ukraine in the 1990s. Cardinal Huzar’s narrative represents much more than a simple description of events; it is his spiritual and intellectual autobiography and a direct missive to readers interested in his legacy.
