Journal of Ukrainian Studies Submission Guidelines
We do not accept articles that have been published or accepted or are being considered for publication elsewhere. We also reserve the right to edit all submissions.
All articles and reviews should be sent to the address below in Microsoft Word for Windows on a CD-ROM or as an e-mail attachment. Submissions should have minimal formatting; i.e., one-inch margins, paragraph returns and tabs, indents, full justification, and italics (in book and serial titles and foreign words) only. Please do not add any other coding, styles, right or full justification, superscript letters, small capitals, fonts, headers, footers, page numbering, or double letter-spaces between words or after periods.
Articles should not be longer than 7,500 words, including the notes. Footnotes should be used instead of endnotes. They should include the names of authors and editors as they appear in the work cited (do not substitute initials for first names), the full title and subtitle of the work, and the name of the publisher in addition to the place and year of publication. A tab should separate the text of the note from the footnote number preceding it. For further information regarding footnotes, please consult the 14th or 15th edition of The Chicago Manual of Style.
Ukrainian and Russian book and article titles, personal names, and quotations in those languages should be transliterated according to the modified Library of Congress system below, i.e., without diacritics; without indicating the soft or hard sign by using a single or double prime except in the word “Rus'”; and with surnames ending in -sky instead of -s'kyi (Ukrainian) or -skii (Russian). Thus, the Ukrainian and Russian alphabets are transliterated as
Ukrainian: A, B, V, H, G, D, E, Ie, Zh, Z, Y, I, I, K, L, M, N, O, P, R, S, T, U, F, Kh, Ts, Ch, Shch, Iu, Ia, '
Russian: A, B, V, G, D, E, E, Zh, Z, I, I, K, L, M, N, O P, R, S, T, U, F, Kh, Ts, Ch, Sh, Shch, Y, ', E, Iu, Ia
