Ihor Kalynets, born in 1939 in Khodoriv, Lviv oblast, graduated from Lviv University in 1961. Inspired by the imagistic verse of B.I. Antonych, Kalynets developed his poetry into the finest exponent of modern Ukrainian 'engage' lyricism.
