Émile Kruba is Chair of Ukrainian Studies at Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO) in Paris and is second vice-president of the Shevchenko Scientific Society in Europe. He is the author of Mychajlo Kocjbyns'kyj (1864–1913) et la Prose Ukrainienne de son temps and co-author (with Michel Cadot) of Les Cosaques de l'Ukraine (1995).
